The International Forum to Advance first Responder Innovation (IFAFRI), in collaboration with the European funded research project MEDEA (The Mediterranean & Black Sea Security Practitioners' Network), organized a joint network event in Athens from October 30 to 31. This two-day event, hosted by the Centre for Security Studies (KEMEA), brought together a diverse group of security practitioners, policy makers, and innovative companies. Discussed were common capability gaps in security and disaster management, the importance of secure communication for handling complex emergency situations, and the future of disaster management technologies while exploring cutting-edge solutions for security, disaster management, and emergency response.
The event was complemented by a Technology Showcase organized by the Stakeholder Engagement Committee. This showcase allowed eleven companies to present their innovative products and solutions, aiming to address the IFAFRI Common Global Capability Gaps. Highlights included a rapid nuclear threat detection method and advanced software solutions for enhancing situational awareness and dispatching emergency responders effectively. Attendees also witnessed cutting-edge fire detection and early warning systems, along with a software tool for comprehensive wildfire management. Innovations extended to wearable vital sign and location monitoring, a versatile UAV platform, a risk assessment tool, a digital triage solution, and an ultra-wideband (UWB) local positioning system.
The showcase provided a platform for these companies to engage with attendees and discuss the capabilities and potential applications of their products. It also facilitated valuable discussions on disaster management, crisis response, and security challenges that the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions face.
