Description

Since 2017 the European Commission has been funding 15 pilot projects under strong and mandatory participation of practitioners from a variety of security domains and a multitude of EU Member States and beyond. Those “Networks of Practitioners” (NoPs) have been pursuing either thematic areas, such as Fighting Organised Crime and Terrorism, or Disaster and Societal Resilience, or have had a regional focus, such as on the Danube region, or on the Mediterranean region.

While some networks have concluded or are about to conclude their actions, many are still ongoing, and therefore the time is ripe for some stock-taking, and, not least, for advising on the way ahead.

This CERIS SSRI workshop will bring together all Networks, together with R&D actors from SMEs and academia, and also security research policymakers, in order to discuss results, reflect upon challenges and barriers, but also share best practices and help identifying future security issue areas and future research formats.

The NoP workshop will explicitly address issues such as bridging a supply- and demand-driven capability-building, forward-looking approaches for identifying threats and gaps in the middle- to long-term, networks’ exploitation of results and their sustainability, and also options for further engaging practitioners into security research actions in the future European Research & Innovation Programme.
